MR Architecture + Decor

MR Architecture + Decor is a 20-person studio led by founding partner David Mann, in collaboration with associates William Clukies, Robin Corsino and Robert Fuller. Based in New York City, the firm’s scope of work extends from ground-up construction and renovation to interior architecture, design and decoration for residential, retail and other commercial spaces. The MR aesthetic is characterized by diversity and unified by an essential clarity. Design evolves out of intimate dialogue: between the client and the architect, between the architect and the site. The results reflect clients’ needs and desires, their unique characters as filtered through the MR vision; and reveal a beautifully calibrated balance between form and function. With no singular mandated style, MR is free to take on widely disparate clients and projects. The common denominator throughout is a disciplined aesthetic that focuses on revealing the poetry in the most rational approach to space, proportion and light.

Maasland Architecten

The link between sustainability and architecture all came during the trial of founder Gideon Maasland. The ecological projects in early nineties saw little of architectural and uninspiring. Convinced that it could better Maasland threw himself on the possible symbiosis between sustainability and architecture.

DKV Architects Maasland expanded research on sustainable architecture. Some pilot projects and inspiring lectures stressing the relationship between sustainability and architecture emphasized were the consequence of it. In KCAP Architects & Planners, an international operating agency for architecture and urbanism, Maasland expanded his research further and he has a special working group. For (international) projects in the areas of housing, schools and offices, Gideon Maasland his knowledge of architecture and sustainability in practice managed to bring.

Now seeing more sustainable projects are architecturally good. Therefore, shifting the focus of current investigations, architecturally inspiring to a more practical side. What techniques are best to combine, and which works specifically against each other? What techniques have the greatest gain at the lowest investment? What is the latest information on sustainable materialization?

Prestigious projects we work with BREEAM, an international standard for durability calculations. For smaller projects, we GPR building work perfectly. Both programs calculate in various fields (energy, water, materials etc) a durability factor making it possible to a scientific way to compare apples with pears. This sustainability certificate plays an important role in decision-making and publicity.

Commitment to quality and innovation has been rewarded with over 100 design awards in the history of the practice and a high level of repeat business. Targeting neglected inner-city sites, where mainstream developers see too much risk, it has united design skills and business acumen to produce many commercially successful schemes. 123DV

The company is founded in 1999 by Liong Lie.
The current team consists of 10 architects, planners and interior designers.

WORK FIELD
In addition to buildings and interiors, we also design custom made products such as furniture, sinks, doors, lighting for an optimal experience.
Your question is our mission.

VISION We believe that due to changes in society existing concepts of living and working are to be reconsidered.
When necessary they should be revised to better reflect the diversity of lifestyles that provide for new developments.

We believe in "form follows identity", from personal to public and commercial projects.
In personal projects such as villas it results in tailor made buildings.
To stress the character of the public space we designed "edible" sinks for a restaurant.

We embrace "crossover thinking". We think that it can lead to unexpected solutions and increase people's comfort of life.
Traces from the car- and fashion industry can be found in the blackbox project; a cupboard as a silence room or a silence room as a cupboard.

GRID Architects

GRID is not so much a new architectural practice, as a new chapter of development for a group that has been successfully working together for over 10 years (formerly Hamiltons’ Housing and Urbanism Group).

GRID has emerged out of one of the country's largest architectural practices to reflect the evolving demands of the industry and our clients. We undertook some seminal residential developments in the last 10 years and we will still be focusing on what we do best – Residential and Masterplanning Projects. But the idea behind GRID as an autonomous company is to take that achievement further.

To achieve this GRID has put together a studio of specialists who have worked together on successful projects. From strategic overviews, to designing urban spaces, to interiors and façade design; we put as much energy into the 3mm mortar joint as we do into the motorway junction. We have also assembled a team of collaborators, like internationally acclaimed computer animators, landscape architects, artists and other architects.

Demakersvan

Dutch Design is mostly famous for its conceptual, almost art-like status.
We are very much Dutch, but apart from that, we also strongly believe that in the end our work should also find a larger audience.
That is why we work in a similar way as the Haute Couture fashion world works.
Our studio will take the largest amount of artistic freedom to express valuable concepts, fantastic stories in projects that know no limitations.
We use them ourselves as an inspiration and show them as a way to tell our story.
On the other hand that same drive can lead to products that find their way in the productionline. We are storytellers, from fantasy to factory, from statement to product.

Overland Partners

Although Overland Partners was founded in 1987, the idea of Overland began taking shape a decade before. Four close friends (Rick Archer, Tim Blonkvist, Robert Schmidt and Madison Smith) from the University of Texas at Austin, dreamed of one day opening their own firm. However, life took them in different directions after graduation. They each traveled the world in their separate endeavors, studying and working in places like Copenhagen, Zurich, New York, Washington, D.C. and Dallas; all the while keeping in touch. Finally, in 1987 they were able to bring their dream to life. Over the years, the firm has grown from four friends working on small remodeling projects to over 60 professionals working on significant public buildings throughout the United States and several other countries. More importantly, Overland has become a group of passionate individuals working together to influence the world through their architecture.

Their work has also been shown at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

Sergio Rodrigues

Sergio Rodrigues is this enlightened figure with a remarkable personality that had the ability to transform his concerns into a coherent and revealing work of the Brazilian culture. Sergio is, without a doubt, one of the most admirable design expressions in our country. His coherent and unique trace inscribed his name in the history of design in the 20th century, mainly for the creation of a variety of products - the most famous being the “Mole” armchair (Sheriff armchair).

Alongside masters such as Joaquim Tenreiro and Jose Zanine Caldas, Sergio has made Brazilian design internationally known. While Tenreiro, with his sober furniture, was the pioneer in the quest of a new style, Zanine extracted from the wood all of its expressive potential and Sergio Rodrigues developed vast experience of production, looking to “think” Brazil through design. He totally transformed furniture jargon, was generous in the trace and the use of native wood and, as Lucio Costa well affirmed, with the creation of OCA (his first interior design store) integrated the interior ambiance in the renovation movement of Brazilian architecture.

In the mid 50s, Brazilian production in this sector (furniture) was still bound to styles and its renovation demanded a battle. Sergio knew that the only weapon he had was the design and that was where he embarked.

Initially, as an architect, he worked together with David Azambuja, Flavio Regis do Nascimento and Olavo Redig de Campos on the Curitiba Civic Center project, which was very significant for Brazilian modern arquitecture. However, knowing well his interests and wandering the path that had already been wandered by other great architects, such as João Batista Vilanova Artigas, Oscar Niemayer, Oswaldo Bratke and Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Sergio leaped from architecture to furniture design.

Aside from this, he was absolutely sure that arquitecture in which the internal space was not planned accordingly was not arquitecture, it was sculpture.

Joaquim Tenreiro

Joaquim Tenreiro (born Melo, Gouveia, Portugal, 1906-d. Itapira, Brazil, 1992) was among the leading furniture designers and visual artists in midcentury Brazil. Born into a family of woodworkers and carpenters in Portugal, he emigrated to Rio de Janeiro and in the 1920s began working for the firm of Laubissh & Hirth. In the early 1940s, Tenreiro was among the first designers in the Brazilian furniture industry to adopt a European modernist vernacular. His initial efforts, including the 1942 "Poltrona Leve," met with considerable success, and in 1943 he established his own firm with factories in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. One of his main clients was Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, for whose houses a number of pieces were originally commissioned. Taking advantage of indigenous Brazilian hardwoods and designing with the Brazilian climate in mind (by keeping pieces light, and often using wicker or cane), Tenreiro evolved a distinctive style suited to local conditions. His 1947 "Cadeira de Embalo" (Rocking Chair) is still in production. Tenreiro gave up the furniture business in the late 1960s to concentrate on his painting and sculpture—activities in which he had been engaged privately for many decades.

Julia Krantz

Combining the design of wooden furniture with an environmental concern is one of the main characteristics of Julia Krantz's work. An arquitecture graduate from the University of São Paulo 's Faculty of Arquitecture and Urbanism, her line of work exposes the organic power of the wood with a mindful craftsmanship that makes this raw material dialogue with its original condition, through forms that reveal something beyond simple everyday use. In her work, ecology plays a fundamental role. The designer is an associate of the Certified Forestry Products Buyers Group and has a Forest Stewardship Council – FSC seal of certification. She has a commitment to only using materials obtained through sustainable management and refusing to employ endangered species. Dissemination and valorization of little known rainforest species and struggling against environmental degradation combines with an artistic utilization of this raw material so endowed with resources. Carefulness and fascination with nature are clearly apparent in her products as well as the rich variety of designs, forms and colors that the rainforest offers to the hands of the creative artist.

Aleck is a third generation San Franciscan. He is also a third generation architect, whose grandfather had a practice in San Francisco in the 50’s and 60’s, Aleck L. Wilson and Associates.

Our design process is one that emphasizes spatial and contextual relationships, rather than a particular style. We are dedicated to creating timeless buildings designed to the owner’s and projects specific program. Each project is approached with an open perspective, and often results in diverse schematic studies. Constant across all projects are a close relationship with the client, project management inclusive of project budgeting, aesthetic evolution and education.

Our firm believes strongly in building and materials in the continuation of the design process. Aleck has a background in construction that has led the firm to have a symbiotic relationship with the builder and the building. These relationships and sensibilities were developed in working with existing building projects and have led to an informed process for larger and more developed projects. A truly successful project makes a substantial contribution - a real difference - to an institution. We bring together the people, skills and commitment to produce a project that makes that kind of contribution.

Ernst Giselbrecht

Ernst Giselbrecht, born 1951 in Dornbirn, Austria, can be considered one of the new leading figures of the Graz school. He has replaced the formal expressivism, which was the early trademark of this movement, that quickly gained international acclaim, with a more rational architectural language. A factual design, autonomy and readability of the structural parts as well as an unpretentious use of contemporary technology define Giselbrecht's work. The materials are used sparingly in accordance with the requirememnts of the location and the function of the building. The results are highly different buildings with diverse functions: educational and residential buildings, offices and workshops, as well as health and administrative buildings. The architect has also designed exhibitions, and has himself been the subject of numerous exhibitions. The website offers a selection of 24 buildings and projects whose aesthetic effects and construction are examined in detail.

Sua Kay Arquitectos

We started SKA in 1984. With an enthusiastic and tight team we achieve the impossible and have great fun at the same time. Small projects are as important as the major commissions and our creativity is always seasoned with a good measure of pragmatism.
Buildability is essential with cost control and built quality critical to our work. We apply new technologies where these are justified and make economic sense. We do not use sustainability as a last resort. Simply, we can argue it in some cases and not in others. We love to build and watch people use the buildings we have designed. We also understand that these are not our buildings: they belong to those who use them. So we might despair at people's' misappropriation of their space, but more often than not we delight in their use of it.

MiAS Arquitectes

" Sometimes I tell that every project, competition, assignment we do is like a specific exercise of classic gymnastics. This is the reason why in our office we use the word exercise more the project. We say projects or definitely buildings only when they strike a balance with reality and leave the paper. Until then they are exercises because this way they make possible to develop a parallel activity of personal, intellectual, independent investigation with very peculiar interests, which can later be or not included in the project. We check them continuously.
Drawing is the basic element to measure the potential of each proposal. We draw and redraw, again and again, and every new sketch must produce a new possibility, to be formalized in a three-dimensional construction, a model. As far as they create new chances the project will move forward, going to and fro, frantically.
This gymnastic exercise gives consistency and lucidity to our work.
We verify that every project-exercise should form part of the successive, providing new opportunities. Also the disposition of our desks in the space we work makes the projects mixing and getting “tainted”. This way we confirm that we are always doing the same project."

ARCHITECTS RGC

ARCHITECTS RGC is a study of architecture founded by Xavier Cavero, Jordi Gual and Salvador Ribas. Initially formed in the late 80s around the School of Architecture of Vallès, is recognized as the professional team from 1990. From then on we developed our RGC ARCHITECTS projects in the fields of Architecture, Urban Space, and Interior Design, working in teams and in collaboration with professional experts from different disciplines, who develop more specialized technical aspects, to ensure the quality of the study projects.

The structure of our working group has enabled us to tackle projects from a global view while approaching, responding to the demands of a dynamic and demanding society.

The selection of works and projects presented, reflects the diversity of assignments, and serves as a catalog of everyday architecture, modern, environmentally friendly and closely linked with the landscape that is proper. The trajectory of RGC ARCHITECTS, first recognized in the "Young Architects Competition of Catalonia in 1995 and subsequently in several" samples and calls for Architecture, "finally consolidated with the ongoing response of our customers.

2012Architects

2012Architects is a Rotterdam based architecture office that utilizes the contextual potential for design. A design is not considered as the beginning of a linear process but as a phase in a continuous cycle of creation and recreation, use and reuse. The latent properties of used materials and products offer an added value to new products and buildings. Our office views re-use as an integrated design strategy called ‘Superuse’. The Reuse concept applies to building materials as well as to energy supplies, human resources, water, traffic and food cycles. We develop strategies for cities to connect different loops, while integrating these processes into the existing urban environment. This concept is coined ‘Recyclicity’. To get a grip on the complexity of all these aspects, most projects start with investigating the different relevant layers. Important layers are: existing location, context, energy sources, water, food systems, existing built structures, green structures, climate, materials, functionality, ergonomics, available budget, capacity of the project team. After mapping those layers we search for possible interconnections. This ultimately leads to a design that integrates all these aspects. Even the way the office is organised is conceived as a cyclic development process; RE.search, RE.design, RE.build. In RE.search potential waste-streams and regional cycles are investigated. The results of this RE.search are used experimentally within projects in RE.design. In this way knowledge is developed that will be used in architectural projects in RE.build. Practical results are then evaluated by RE.search.

Hofman Dujardin Architects

Hofman Dujardin Architects was founded in 1999. Since then, we have been working on a wide variety of architectural, interior and product design projects with a team consisting of approximately eight architects. This wide scope of projects has been a well considered decision. The diversity in design issues entails an enrichment of any project. Our team switches easily from innovative product development to e.g. pragmatic dwelling floorplans.

Our clients mainly are developers, housing corporations, multi-nationals, law firms and private clients.

Our main goal is to create inspiring buildings, interiors and products that enhance life at large. A surrounding in which people can live and work in an optimized way and where the investments made are fully effected .

For office buildings we design creative working environments in which the employees can work highly efficient and they are inspired continuously. Condominiums and dwellings we transform into interiors with maximum comfort and fully adjusted to ideas and wishes of the clients. And by executing product designs such as the Bloomframe balcony, we express our relentless effort to innovate, surprise and challenge.
